Varadero, Walking through the city

 

 

Varadero is a very popular resort town in the province of Matanzas, Cuba. It is a tourist’s delight with Turqois Sea, white beaches, and Cuba’s only full golf course present here. Accommodation is easy to get with a whole range of luxury hotels and resorts. This town is one of the largest resort towns in Cuba, and is referred to as Playa Azul, which has a Spanish meaning of ‘blue beach’. The lovely beaches and warm clear water provides tourists with a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere to enjoy their vacations.

The town has almost 20 kms of white sandy beaches, numerous caves, lagoons, and cliffs, which makes it an important eco-tourism centre in Cuba. The nearby cities like Cardenas and Matanzas are easily accessible from Varadero. This resort town is close to many historic, cultural, and environmental sites in Cuba. Tourists can also visit the Zapata Swamp Biosphere Reserve, a very important centre for biological research activities and one of the most famous Biosphere reserves in the country.

Since lot of important destination is within the reach of the city, tourists would want to move around and explore the city, and its surrounding places. The five avenues Kawama, Primera, Playa, Las Americas, and Autopista del Sur, which is part of this town, should be in the tourists plan while exploring Varadero. There are several transport options for the tourists while exploring this town such as driving a car, a moped, boarding a tourist train, sitting on a double deck open air bus,  and finally trying the old, horse drawn coach to have easy access to all parts of the town.

Some of the most interesting places in and around Varadero that are major tourist attractions include Parque Josone, Seafari Cayo Blanco, Delfinario, Bellamar Caves, Tropicana Matanzas, and Villa Du Pont. The Bellamar caves are one of Cuba’s oldest tourist attractions. This cave complex has been attracting visitors since the 1860’s. The whole complex is spread over a large area and very attractive to explore. The underfoot conditions in the caves are slightly damp and rough, which makes the exploration even more challenging. However, for those seeking adventure, this is the perfect place to begin their vacations.

 

The Seafari Cayo Blanco offers the option of excursion catamaran; tourists can also try snorkeling in the coral reef barrier. Tourists are then subjected to entertainment, music, and delicious Cuban meals. There also is an open bar with many Cuban cocktails to choose from in Cayo Blanco. Delfinario is a place where tourists can enjoy watching Dolphin shows with the realistic option of actually swimming around with the dolphins. Tropicana Matanzas is one of the newest Tropicana, and the most famous cabaret in Cuba. This artistic production is filled with Cuban music, dance, and history. Tourists can have a very enjoyable time on a visit to this place.

The Parque Josone, situated in the middle of Varadero is filled with birds, vendors selling attractive items, and music. There, also is provision of camel rides for kids in the park. The Villa Du point is the headquarters of the only full course golf club in the country, known as the Varadero Golf Club. The golf course with 18 holes is the largest one in the country. The building is filled with oil paintings, mahogany furniture, and has floors made of Italian marble and bronze. Tourists cannot escape admiring the beauty of this place and going for a relaxing game of golf.

The nightlife is very exciting in Varadero, as the whole town changes when evening arrives. There are more than 100 discotheques, nightclubs, and bars open throughout the night to provide tourists with a lot of enjoyment. There are party halls, piano bars, and excellent animation programs for the tourists to get them glued to the place.
