The beautiful province of Pinar del Río
The beautiful province of Pinar del Rio, also known as green
province, is a splendid gift of nature. Located in the western part of Cuba, the province is a great tourist
attraction with mountain ranges, waterfalls, beaches, fertile lands, and valleys. One of the most special
provinces in Cuba, it is also famous for Tobacco plantations.
The province has two great mountain ranges, the Sierra de los
Organos and Sierra del Rossario. Sierra de los Organos is of significant geographical interest and provides great
research and mining opportunities. The Vinales Valley located in this mountain range is a tourists’ delight with
pincushion hills and caves. Some of the famous caves located here is the Indian and Santo Thomas caves. It is a
great place for trekking, hiking, rock climbing and watching local plant and animal species. The Valley also
provides many more ecotourism opportunities to tourists. Several great hot springs in the province are major
attractions for tourists visiting Cuba.
The Sierra del Rossario, is a natural biosphere reserve and
amongst the oldest mountain systems in the country. The tourist attractions include Soroa Lookout point,
waterfalls, and orchid garden. This place is also called as the Rainbow of Cuba. To the north and south of the
province, there are keys with warm transparent waters like Cayo Levisa. The tobacco plantation work takes place in
the fertile fields between the mountains. The presence of all these natural resources gives the tourists a very
enjoyable and relaxing vacation in the province. The province has almost 30 scuba diving sites with some of the
best in Cuba like Paraiso Perdido, Ancla del Pirata, Las Tetas de Maria, and El Salon de Maria.
Pinar del Rio City, the capital of this province has many museums
of natural sciences and history. The local drink of the province called Guayabita del Pinar is manufactured in a
local distillery located in this city. The other major tourists’ attractions include the house of rum, a big cigar
factory that allows tourists to see the cigar manufacturing process, Troubadour’s house, and the Provincial visual
arts centre. The Cayo Jutias, is a peaceful islet situated very close to the main land, interlinks the two land
mass. Tourists can enjoy swimming and hiking in a very calm and serene atmosphere at this place.
The Cathedral de San Rosendo located in this city is the oldest and religiously
significant architecture in Cuba. The only time to enter this late 19th century structure is just
before the mass when the door of the Cathedral is open to visitors. The Provincial History Museum is also located
in the Pinar del Rio city and has the valuable information about the whole province. It also provides information
about the colonial establishment that started the Tobacco industry in the province.
